Policy Development and Training: 12+ Policies, 60 Units

Emerging Tech led security policy development, a compliance audit, and end-user training for the FBI’s Security Division, OCIO, and Information and Technology Branch.

In support of the FBI’s Security Division (SD), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), & the Information and Technology Branch (ITB), Emerging Tech was tasked with leading the development of security policies, conducting a compliance audit, and creating end user training documents.

What the Work Delivered

  • Reviewed, analyzed, and updated twelve plus individual policies & interim guidance which equates to more than 2000 pages of documentation.
  • Collaborated with ~130 individual government point of contacts across 60 units within the FBI to capture their feedback and preferences.
  • Developed and updated individual end-users and privilege user trainings to maintain security best practices.

How We Delivered It

Policy Authorship

Created policies & procedures to govern the use of the FBI’s IT infrastructure focusing on data security, access controls, privileged users, security professionals, and end users.

Training Delivery

Developed training materials and conducted training sessions to educate the FBI’s personnel on current IT policies and procedures.

Advocacy

Served as the IT policy & training advocate across many reoccurring and ad hoc meetings to propose changes to the decision makers.

Compliance Analysis

Analyzed current policies & training materials to verify their compliance with legal and regulatory requirements such as federal government laws, National Security System (NSS) directives, and Department of Justice (DOJ) policies/guidance.

Market Research

Conducted market research to identify issues, trends, and best practices to lead the creation and implementation process.

Metrics

Collected, organized, and presented metrics to senior leadership on the overall effectiveness of the policies, which included identifying areas in need of improvement, and the necessary remediations that need to be taken.

Outcome

Completed our goal of helping the FBI improve solution security, increase efficiency, improve user experience, and maintain compliance with external polices/regulation.
